Left Kaikoura and headed to sunny Nelson where we were meeting Bill and Leah for the weekend. Took a drive via Blenheim and Picton. Stopped off at Blenheim for lunch, tried to find a nice little cafe but not a lot there so ended up in Pizza Hut - DOH! Drove through Picton, a small harbour town, very pretty. Then our drive got very interesting, windy roads real high up on the mountainside, incredible views! Jim looked like a rally driver on the roads! Finally arrived at Nelson where Bill had booked a Holiday home for us for the weekend up in the hills. It was an ace house with great views over the city. Had three double bedrooms, the lounge had a flat screen TV with surround sound - much nicer than what we have become accustomed to! Bill and Leah arrived later that night, we had a takeaway meal and a few glasses of wine whilst catching up. The next day we headed over to Abel Tasman National Park. Nearly died when Bill took his eyes off the road to enjoy the view - thanks Bill!! Tried to get some lunch but the one cafe was closed until September.. hmmm. After finally finding some food we took a water taxi into the Park, hopped off at one of the little bays and started the 11km walk back. The walk took us through a forrest filled with streams, again more good views of the sea. Took us four hours to complete the walk. Headed back to Nelson a tired little bunch, so got another takeaway and enjoyed the flat screen TV. Next day we headed into Nelson town. Got some lunch in Trafalgar Square then headed out to Happy Valley. Happy Valley was a small park which had numerous activities such as quad bikes. We chose the sky wire. This was a wire with a four man ski lift type chair which took you over the forrest for 1.6km - we got up to 94km/h. Was good fun. That night we said our goodbyes to Bill and Leah as they had to head back to work mwuahahaha. We stayed on in Nelson and moved into another hostel. The next day we had another potter around the city. Went to the Queens gardens and the Cathederal. Enjoyed our time in Nelson, but was time for some relaxing soon!!
