Claire's Travels
We set off at a fairly reasonable hour today which was very nice! Our first stop was a Redwood Forest which was lovely first thing in the morning. Though a did feel sorry for the local people trying to do their morning jog - a few times the had to practically run into the bushes to pass us!
After lunch we made our way to see the rabbit shearing. Yes thats right, not sheep but bunny shearing! To be honest we thought LJ (our driver) was joking but sure enough we went into the little show room and there was a rabbit all tied up ready to be clipped and a lady donning a microphone (although we were all standing within a meter of her. I think she was on a slight power trip) ready to explain the process!
These were all Angora rabbits and their fur was cut to make clothes etc. Apparently the fur grows so quickly that it was to be clipped every couple of months of the rabbits over heat and die!
Well we all watched in complete fasination as Parsley's (oh yes they all have names) littles legs were tied up and he was stretched out in preparation. This doesnt actually hurt them at all. As the fur was being clipped he was rotated so the lady could get at all parts! It was amazing!!!!
At the end they brought in another rabbit called Able so we could have our picture with him. he was an absolute brute!!!
The rabbit shearing will definately be one of the most memorable events throughout my whole trip!!!
That night we visited a waterfall and a natural bridge...a cave that has colapsed to create a bridge. We really do visit the most random things on this trip but its all part of the fun!!!
