We've had a busy first week in Perth, sorting out loads of admin stuff for our year here in Australia. Everything has been going smoothly, we've activated the bank accounts we set up from Guernsey and got our debit cards (no money in the accounts yet though!), set up a 'Super' account, which is for something called super annuation, which is basically a pension fund that your employer will pay in to when you're working and which we can claim back when we leave Australia. We've also set up Australian phone numbers, and decided to buy a car to travel up and down the coast, because it seems to work out cheaper than hiring something, so we've had a look around at a few car dealers. We haven't bought anything yet, as we're waiting for some money to be transferred to our new accounts, but the aim is to have something by the end of the week. We've also had a look around Perth city centre, which is a lovely bustling place but has a much more relaxed vibe than Hong Kong so it's a really refreshing place to be. On Tuesday we decided to take a picnic up to King's Park, which is a huge park in the middle of the city (it's bigger than Central Park in New York apparently!). It has great views over the city and over the Swan River, so we spent a really relaxing afternoon up there in the sun. There are also botanic gardens there, so we had a walk around looking at all different types of Austrlian plants, and saw quite a few native bird species too. We also saw some galahs outside our hostel, these are parrots and there is one in Neighbours, so we really feel like we're in Australia now!
