We had a busy few days earlier in the week, and some pretty rubbish weather to go with it, but we have finally managed to sell our car! It's a bit sad to say goodbye to our faithful friend Commodore Norrington, but when we leave Sydney next week we are travelling by coach so the time had come to pass him on to some other travellers. We started advertising it on the internet back in February, and even went round to loads of the hostels in our area with posters, but we'd only had a couple of inquiries and no serious offers. On Tuesday we were starting to get a bit desperate as the week of parking that we had paid for had almost run out, and the only real offer we had had was from a car dealer who said he would give us $500 to take it off our hands - a bit less than the $3500 or so we had spent on it! Joel then had the idea to put an advert on gumtree and say that we would accept any serious offers over $500 if someone would buy it and take it away by the next, or we would take it to a scrapyard (which we didn't really want to do). Cue a manic fews hours where we had around 10 offers from different people who all wanted to buy the car that day! We eventually had an offer of $1700 from a couple who had only arrived in Australia that afternoon, and after meeting them they gave us cash and took the car with them, and nicely gave us a lift back to our hotel as it was pouring with rain - success! The next day we had a few admin things to do with our car like pay the money into the bank (kerching!), cancel the car insurance and post off the transfer forms. We then needed a bit of a rest, so we chilled out in the park down the road from our hotel with a coffee and a lovely view over the harbour. Today the weather had cleared, it was warm with blue skies and the sun was shining, so we headed down to the coast to check out the one and only Bondi Beach! When we got there we started off with fish and chips at the pavillion, before finding a spot on the sand to relax on. It was lovely and warm, around 27 degrees (cooler than we're used to but still nice!), so we chilled out for a couple of hours before going for a swim. The water was really warm and clear, but the waves were huge! They were a bit too big to let us have a relaxing swim, but we had loads of fun body surfing the waves into the beach. We even spotted some of the lifeguards from Bondi Rescue (an Australian tv programme). When we'd had enough of the beach we walked a little way along the cliff paths to get a better view of Bondi from above, and even walked far enough round to see Tamarama Beach, which looked just as nice as Bondi but a lot less crowded. It was a really great way to spend a Thursday!
