We left Alice Springs on the Ghan, arriving in Adelaide after our loooong train journey. From there we had 3 days of driving to get to our next destination, the Blue Mountains. We lucked out with the weather as for the whole 3 days we have been here it has been sunny and the visibility has been really good - apparently sometimes it can be really foggy up here and you can't see a thing! We arrived in the late afternoon, so on our first day we just went down to Echo Point to have a look at the main attraction in the evening sun - the Three Sisters. The views over the Jamison Valley were spectacular - everything really does look blue! The Three Sisters themselves were amazing to look at too, it was just a shame the lookout was so full of tour groups! The next day we set off fairly early to go to Scenic World, which is pretty touristy but gives you a great day out exploring the area. We started by taking the train down to the bottom of the valley - the steepest train incline in the world and we were in the front row, the tracks literally disappeared beneath us! Once we were at the bottom of the valley we did the long walk around the rainforest, it was really peaceful and we saw quite a lot of wildlife from the boardwalk. We then took a cablecar back up to the tourist centre where we had lunch. Next we took another cable car across the valley, which had great views over Katoomba Falls, as well as the Three Sisters and Mount Solitary (a mountain larger than Uluru!). When we got off the cable car we walked around the cliff top to Echo Point, and we tried to walk over to the Three Sisters, but after following lots of diversion signs we realised that the track was closed for renovations, which was a bit disappointing. We then headed back to get the cable car back across the valley, and as we had bought a day pass we decided to make the most of it and so got the cablecar back down into the valley before getting the train back up to the top. In the evening our hostel put on a BBQ, so for $3 we got loads of salads and got to cook our own meat, as well as meeting lots of new people which was great - although Joel has now got some massive insect bites from being outside in the evening! We also made friends with the hostel cat by sneakily feeding it some of our chicken - I couldn't resist it's eyes! For our last day here we headed down the highway to the nearby town of Blackheath, where we did the Fairfax Walk from the visitor centre down to George Philip Lookout (which had great views and was really peaceful), and along to Govetts Leap Lookout which had amazing views of the Grose Valley as well as Bridal Veil Falls. We then drove down to Evans Lookout for some more awesome views, before heading back to Katoomba for lunch. It's been really peacful up here, but we're pretty excited about our next stop - we're finally going to Sydney!
