The beginning of our Eurotrip started on Saturday, April 4. I went on the trip with 3 friends, Sarah, Hannah, and Alyssa. We flew out of Dublin into Rome Ciampino airport on Saturday night, to be in Rome in time for Easter Sunday. We took a taxi to our B&B, Minerva Gardens, and went to bed right away since we would be waking up early the next morning. Easter Mass at the Vatican started at 10:00am, but it was recommended to get there at least 2 hours before. We walked down toward the Vatican City area and found a place to eat breakfast. It was pouring rain out and there were already people all lined up down the street trying to get into the Mass. It was still pretty crowded even though the weather wasn't that great. We spent a while at the Mass and saw the Pope ride through in his car. He wasn't behind glass or anything which surprised me. I guess he's known to not want protection from the crowds since he is such a trusting person. The Mass was all in Italian so we didn't exactly understand what was being said but we were at least able to be there. After Mass, we went to dry off and find the subway to take us to the Colosseum. Even on Easter there were a lot of people trying to see the Colosseum as well. The rain eased up a little bit which was nice. After the Colosseum, we took the subway to see the Trevi Fountain. However, when we got there, it was under construction. There was no water in the fountain either. We walked around this area for a little while, as there were places to eat and shop. We got gelato here and then headed back for dinner a little later. We had to wake up Monday morning early to catch a train to Florence. We walked 11.48 miles over the weekend in Rome.
