We took an early train out of Rome to Florence. We found our B&B, Stefania Rooms, which was close to the central area of Florence. We dropped our stuff off and went to find something for breakfast. Our whole time in Italy, all we really saw for breakfast was pastries. We found some really cute bakery shops throughout the trip. After breakfast, we headed over to get tickets for the Duomo, which is the Cathedral. We waited in line to see it actually for a few hours, so the four of us switched off with each other to get snacks while we waited in line. It was nice and sunny out, but it was actually surprisingly cold out, especially when we were waiting in the shade. We then climbed to the top of the Duomo, all 463 steps. It was definitely a hike but it was so worth the view. You could see really far out into Florence and it was so nice to see in the sun. After that, we walked to a piazza past the Duomo and saw the David statue by Michelangelo, which was really the remake of the original one that you have to pay to see. We then got pizza for dinner and gelato for dessert, and headed back to our B&B to get some sleep, as we were meeting up with Sarah's roommate from Quinnipiac who studies in Florence the next day. We did 7.32 miles of walking. On Tuesday, we met up with Taylor (Sarah's roommate) who brought us to breakfast at La Milkeria, a place her and her friends had found. We got waffles and then she took us to the central market. It was a large market area with many venders, a lot of them selling leather. The Italian leather was so nice and inexpensive when comparing it to buying leather at home. We walked around that area for a while Taylor went to class. We then walked to the Ponte Vecchio area, which is an arch bridge over the Arno River. It was nice and sunny out so walking along the river was fun. It was a lot warmer in Florence than it had been in Cork, so it was a change for us. Taylor told us all the places we needed to go and what we needed to eat, so it was nice to have someone who knew the area. She brought us to a really good restaurant for dinner, and then we stayed with her for the night. We had to catch a 3:40am bus to Pisa Airport from there for our early flight, so sleep deprived was an understatement. We walked 9.07 miles on Tuesday. Florence was definitely one of my favorite spots we visited. Our next stop is Paris, France!
