Well....whoever said it never rains in Australia?! They were wrong...
We have witnessed the craziest weather ever!!!!!
Today we decided to go for a stroll around the city.. Maggie and Pete went off to visit the Lost and Found Market and we went to Central Shopping Centre to grab a few presents! As we left the flat we decided to put the raincoats in for good measure...thank goodness we did! We had already applied our suncream as the sun was shining much to our delight and we left the flat smiling :)
However....come 2pm everything changed!
The sky went black and the rain started which soon became massive hail stones! Thankfully at this point we were inside and managed not to get soaked!
We hopped onto a free tram after sitting it out for about 15mins and then just as we reached Ethihad the tram came to a stop...
Floods had blocked the road, cars were abandoned, fire engines everywhere. people looking like drowned rats, shops with roofs caved in, gazebos slashed to shreds, and piles of hail that looked like snow! It was the freakiest weather we have ever seen!
Meanwhile..Maggie and Pete were stranded at Federation Square, with no free trams to catch and with no other choice than to walk back in the rain! Thankfully they had their camera with them to snap some of the mayhem..including a guy attempting to body board down Flinders Street!!
We all made it back to the flat safe and sound..made a nice cup of tea and started to dry out...
However...Drama two...Maggie in the middle of eating her tea, Pete just finished making pancakes and we were in the middle of cooking pasta bake..surprise surprise the fire alarm now was blaring out!! We then had to hike down 14 floors of stairs and once again stand out in the rain soaking through another set of clothes!
By this point we were starting to get just a tad annoyed at our bad luck! A nice sunny day was rapidly turning out to be a disaster!
So we decided to abandon our relaxing evening and go with the original plan of attending the AFL game at Ethihad Stadium..however....Drama three....
The Ethihad stadium was not letting anyone inside in case of roof damage and so hundreds of people were standing out in the rain drenched and waiting to be let in to watch the game. After deliberating for 10 minutes we gave it up as a bad job and walked...once again back to the flat in the rain!
Finally home and dry there was no way we were going out again tonight to get wet! Never mind we thought...we can always watch it on television...wrong! Surprise, surprise....channel was scrambled and no reception due to the weather!! We gave this up as a bad job and have laughed through the rest of the evening not believing our bad luck today!
A very strange, eventful and funny day...no doubt one we will never forget!
Goodnight everyone
A very wet Maggie, Pete, Netti and Chris xxxx
