Hi Everyone!
It is official we only have two weeks left in Melbourne eeek! Things have been extremely hectic here the last couple of weeks! After sending Mum back to Yorkshire we then picked Maggie & Pete up from the airport the next morning..so it has been non-stop visitors! Joey is part of the furniture now here and is refusing to leave because she is having such a good time not being at work!
After the Lewis family arrived we spent the first few days relaxing (well not totally relaxing) and looking around Melbourne. Maggie & Pete both love the freebie tram and they have already been catching it all over Melbourne exploring places and having a look around. Maggie had found a fabulous 'Lost and Found Market' which had lots of interesting goodies. We had a little trouble finding the place...but after some friendly advice from one of the locals we found it! The place was stacked with Retro clothes, books, toys and everything else you could imagine from past decades! Jax & Dave you would have loved it!
In the first few days we also visited St Kilda to go to the beach and then again to visit Lunar Park and see the Penguins. The weather here has been colder the last week and so like true tourists we braved the freezing cold wind and rain and hiked along the very long pier to see the miniature penguins.
Hurray they still arrived (thank goodness) and we were able to see them swimming up to the rocks and hopping into their nests for the first time at this particular spot which was fab!
Our other adventures have included a visit to the Botanic Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens and a trip to Geelong for the day where we had lovely sunny weather and Maggie & Pete were able to have a well earned sunbathe on the beach!! The train journey home proved to be amusing as I managed to get us all on the wrong train going in the wrong direction! Thankfully, I realised after only one stop so we only got delayed for a short while before the next one arrived...I think I'll stick to trams!
Exciting news this week..we were all able to try curling at the rink! For those of you who (similar to myself) think that curling is just sliding a giant rock across ice...well there is much more involved I can assure you! There is a particular technique to this sport and it requires real skill and strength...I wasn't much good at it..as you can all imagine! But everyone had a good laugh giving it a try!
It's not everyday you get to try curling!
Anyway enough from me, I will be in touch soon with more news!
Miss you all & speak soon
