My Family Travels
Today we got up to drive from Fort Worth to San Antonio. Since my brother and his wife have to work, we decided to go see some more of Texas. In good traffic is should take a little over 4 hours to get there. But we did not hit good traffic. And we have a little guy that we stop for. And it was rainy out. So our drive took much longer than 4 hours, but we were ok with that. We found out that construction in Texas means stop and go traffic. So we did that until we were south of downtown Fort Worth. Once we got out of the city, the drive was much better. I loved seeing the blue bonnets on the side of the highway. My brother told me we should stop at a Buc-ee's. I don't know how you would describe it. I imagined it as a wayside stop. But it's more than that. It had a ton of gas pumps outside. Inside it had tons of kitschy Texas stuff and food. We got lunch here of house made chips, bbq brisket sandwich, and roasted almonds. For being "gas station" food, it was a good start to our trip. We finally got to our hotel in mid-afternoon. We took Silas to the pool for the first time. There was no steps to go into the pool, only a ladder. So we had to hold him the whole time. In typical Silas fashion, he just stared at everything the whole time we were in the pool. Hopefully next time he is at a pool, he will actually smile. After washing up we decided to explore. I read good things about a place called Mi Tierra Cafe. There we ordered a lemon empanada and a pecan praline from the bakery. Oh those were so good! So we ate our dessert as we walked over to the Alamo. It was closed by the time we got there, but we were able to see the outside and take a few pictures. From there we walked along the Riverwalk. It is very beautiful. Our great plan of eating on the Riverwalk was disrupted by the fact that it was close to our little mister's bedtime. So we wandered a bit (carrying the stroller up and down a few flights of stairs) for a while. We kept an eye out for a place to grab a quick bite, but most of the restaurants on the Riverwalk are nice sit down places. We got back to our hotel at about 8 and put Silas to sleep. Paul walked over to the Pizza Hut that was a few doors down from our hotel. We ended our night with pizza at 9 in our hotel. A pretty nice way to end our day. :)
