Decided to wander down to the Louvre after brekkie at local bakery. A little drizzle but none whilst queuing to get in. Lots of people and it seemed that almost everybody was taking either a selfie or pictures of the exhibits. Surely to goodness they could buy a guide book which would have better quality pictures and also descriptions of what they were seeing. What is the fascination with "selfie sticks"? As the day wore on the crowds became bigger and quite unco...

Took the train down to Versailles to have a look at the opulence. No wonder they had a revolution! More people than we had anticipated. Had a good look round the palace and the gardens although again very cold. Had dinner close by us in a very nice restaurant.

A bit of lie in and then down the road for a pain au chocolat and coffee and then a walk round. It was a bit cold but dry. Went down to Notre Dame and then on to the Pompidou Centre. Caught up with John and Allison again and we went to Musee de L'Orangerie to have a look at the Monet collection and others. More coffee, etc., before walking back to the apartment and relaxing before going down to the Latin Quarter for dinner. Bit of a mix up with the meeting point ...

Arrived ok and the apartment is terrific. Great location. Elaine was already here when I arrived so I was able to have a shower and put all my clothes in the washing machine. Went across the road to meet up with John and Allison for a drink. We ended up staying there and having dinner there too so we had a good night.

After 2 flights, 3 trains and a bus I finally arrived in beautiful St Jean Pied de Port via Bordeaux and Bayonne. I will try to attach the view from my room. Non the less beautiful knowing that I have to cross those mountains on Monday. No problems thus far. Hot, sweaty, dry. Nothing that a good shower and a couple of French beers can't put right. Met with a "OK maaaayte" from the French immigration so that put me on a good foot. Clearly didn't pick my English ac...
