Due to our spending the last few days putting in the effort in the mountains, our actual, ‘on-the-map’ progress towards Cannes has slowed. So today we left Sisteron early (7:30) and bashed out around 90 miles. Again it was very hot and, as ever, we are indebted to strangers who cheerfully fill up our bidons with cold water, in the most remote places.
We eventually ran out of puff in a town called Brignowles. So we’ve got a small apartment there, quite close to the town centre, where they’re setting up a stage for an open-air gig tonight. The barmaid I spoke to told me that it was going to be “Techno”. Not really our genre but, no doubt we’ll give it a go.
Earlier this morning, after following the Durance river, we diverted to the town of Les Mées where we had a good look at the strange geological feature there (pictured). There’s a row of around 40 giant rocky monoliths sticking out of the forest - like some mega version of those things on Easter Island. Just waiting to be carved?
