Clocked up good mileage, but this was a very boring route. Yesterday’s stage was through such nice countryside that today’s came as a bit of a disappointment. For most of the 140km the terrain was flat as a pancake through endless cornfields. It could not be more boring. Even the villages were featureless. None of them even having a bar or restaurant.
At half-distance, the scenery was interrupted by the city of Chartres. We both took time to reacquaint ourselves with the stunning cathedral.
Ended up calling it a day, at around 4pm, in the small town of Pithiviers (23 restaurants, according to Google).
Pithiviers is not a particularly interesting town but several relatively famous people hailed from here,
Michel Odent. The pathfinder of modern obstetrics.
Siméon Poisson. The mathematician and statistician.
Steve Marlet. Footballer.
The terrain should start to get better tomorrow...
