All going swimmingly to plan (not there’s any plan, bar getting to Cannes, all in one piece).
More or less, followed the Sâone river south to Lyon and then followed the Rhône river south to Vienne (not to be confused with Vienna).
Actually, and rather surprisingly, it was a rather chilly and drizzly day - apparently, tomorrow should heat up again.
Vienne, sitting on the shores of the big river, is a very attractive place. It is, apparently, the fourth largest city in the Isère (*) department, and was a major center of the Roman empire. The are some big Roman ruins here and, it would appear, ongoing excavations.
After an apéro in a Cuban bar, we dodged an evening cloudburst and found a little Italian place, where grilled gambas and Viognier were the order of the day.
Tomorrow’s route is under discussion...
* The department of Isère is, apparently, named after the ship Isère, in which the Statue of Liberty was transported, in pieces, to the US.
