This is our last update from Manjimup in the beautiful tall tree country.
After lots of very deep conversation and looking at all the pros and cons the decision has been made to hit the high life in Onslow! After the initial shock of finding out we need to pay $340.00/week ($48.57/night) for a site in the caravan park, (currently paying $140.00/week + power in Manjimup and previously $70.00/week + power in Loxton) we were delighted to find out power + water are included, and that we could fit wonderful. Last time we were in Onslow (1996 we paid $14.00/night.....mmmm) that's reality I guess on the Highway of Life.
My only recollection of Onslow are the ruins of the old town of Onslow, some 45km from the current town and according to my notes it was a windy, small fishing town. We had a walk around town and it took 5 minutes, we drove to the mouth of the Ashburton River and the mobile phone coverage was patchy at best, having to resort to using one of those things called a "public telephone". The weather in September was 29 degrees. So my recollection isn't great so it will be a whole new exciting experience. Thanks Wendy for the update today.
We spent a wonderful night with dear friends Michael and Jacky in Albany who we met in 1993 when they emigrated from Holland. Another one of the enduring friendships we've made on our amazing journey. It was fabulous to catch up with all the changes in their lives and although they have now decided to settle down again for awhile, the camper trailer is always ready to go.
We stopped at Lake Muir on the way down and captured an interesting pose.
Yesterday and today was spent packing up and catching up for the final time with friends. We shall miss you Kev and Louise, the pizzas were pretty good too. Always wonderful to have an excuse to catch up for coffee so thanks Lou and Trish. How can I have missed that gem of a cafe?
Tonight Kimbo will spend way too many hours setting up our new computer, way too frustrating for me. I now understand why Windows 8.1 is nobody's favourite. I'm grateful he has so much patience, and the new mouse will eventually make its way to Onslow. Thanks to Marisa and Jeff for sending it off once it gets here.
Tomorrow we head for the really "big smoke" of Perth for a couple of days to catch up with friends and then look out Pilbara region here we come.
Will update when I get the chance.
Excited!!!!

Doug Beatty Hi again. Looks like you are enjoying your mobile lifestyle. My partner is arriving back from Arizona tonight he will be taking over the company for the rest of December and into January as I am ready for some time off. Lots of people doing things they think they can get away so that keeps us busy showing them that they cannot. I really like my job so retirement is not in my plans for a few more years. Keep well and happy. Doug
Emma Another adventure beckons my friend. Love hearing about your travels.

ash-wendyfrank Wow!!! Yeah the rent is crook here, hopefully something else might come up, Really interesting going over your notes of Onslow days gone by.Happy travelling and see you when you get here.Cheers
busmartins Doug so nice to hear from you and we were only talking the other day about our white Christmas in Canada and our exploits on the train with you. Such wonderful memories. While you like what you do just keep on doing it I say, retirement can be let's say "challenging" for some people. Enjoy your time off, keep warm and we hope to see you out here one day for another train adventure.
