Amsterdam Night Convoy
We arrived at the Schipol motorway and rail bridge at 1600 the evening opening was to be at 2000 so 2 hours sleep and a meal later up went the bridge. They stopped a motorway like our M 4 for five min. just to let three yachts past and there is no charge. We then moved on another four miles to another set of bridges and the start of the convoy, due to start some time between 2300 and 0100. In fact an accident on the motorway delayed our start to 0130. It was a nice still evening. There were only three other yachts with us, a Dutch lady said they were in a 46 yacht convoy once. Some bridges opened quickly others not so. At one point we had a man on a scooter moving from bridge to bridge opening them. We tied up for the night after the last rail bridge on a town wall for what was left of the night. We had left Gouda at 0800 in the morning and arrived in Amsterdam at 0330 we had covered 30 nm.
