Las Vegas, Nevada to Williams, Arizona - 283 miles
75 Sunny
Day 100
It was cool as we left Las Vegas. The weather in Williams, Arizona, and our destination today was supposed to be only 74 degrees.
We had to travel a different route than planned. We were not allowed to take the Blue Beast over Hoover Dam.That was a change brought on by 9/11. Instead we drove from Nevada into the desert. The road was narrow but in good shape. As we traveled through the desert we entered California for about an hour. The desert was a flat dry tumbleweed covered landscape. It was surprising to see bridges in the desert. You could see the dry riverbeds under the bridges caused by flashfloods from occasional hard rains in the mountains surrounding us.
As we left the desert behind we drove through Needles, California and paralleled old Route 66. We started to climb as we entered Arizona. Higher and higher we went; up to 7000 feet. The landscape changed to a greener mountainous one. We arrived at Williams, Arizona around 3:30pm.Williams is a cute little town on Old Route 66. A railroad ran through town. The railroad goes to the Grand Canyon each day.
Grand Canon Railway RV Park, our destination, is a very nice RV Park. Everything is new, neat, in working order, and clean. We are located in town so we have many restaurants and shops available.
We hear the whistle of the train as it enters town.
It was beautiful!
