Today after checking out about 1pm we took the metro into town to get the tram to Belem, although they were new style trams on this flat route. Getting off the tram and already feeling the heat we slowly made our way towards the monument to the Portuguese explorers, stopping for a quick lunch along the way. Further along the waterfront was the ornately decorated Tower of Belem which would have stood here and watched ships sailing to new frontiers all those years ago. Taking the shady street back towards the big museum buildings (which looked like a long church) we continued until we came to the crowded Pasteis de Belem to have some of their amazing and famous custard tarts. Despite still having a funny stomach I was not going to miss out on the crunchy, still warm outside & smooth sweet custard in the middle. Having thoroughly enjoyed my tart we sat in the shade a little longer then took the tram back into the city. By the time we got back we didn't really have enough time for Sean to ride more of the old trams and I wasn't feeling very well so we went back to the Novotel to lounge on the reception couches for a bit before dragging our bags back onto the metro to Santa Apolonia station for our overnight train to San Sebastian. The beds were once again already made up do I was soon in mine as we headed north.
