The ship wasn't due to dock in Alesund until 10am so we enjoyed a bit of a sleep in then wandered off the ship just after getting in. Once again there were overpriced hop-on hop-off buses on offer for all the lazy oldies off the ship but we were more than happy to walk, especially as the ship was once again right in the centre of town. As we wandered through town, up towards the main church we wondered if it was a ghost town as there seemed to be no one around. In the centre of town there seemed to be a few more people around but they were mainly tourists. Despite it being sunny the town had been covered over by a dense sea must on and off over the morning. After our lap of town the large hill behind the centre had once again been covered in mist so we decided to head back onboard for a buffet lunch before tackling the 418 steps to the top of the steep hill!! At least we managed to wear off some lunch! Reaching the last lot of steps I mustered up the energy for a sprint to the top & a little 'Rocky' style celebration. We just managed to take in bits of the view over the scattered islands & hills surrounding Alesund when the mist descended once again so we started our descent, this time via a path through the parkland side of the hill. At the bottom we wandered back towards the ship to tackle some washing- surprisingly it was only £2 for a token for the self-service washing machines & the dryers were free- no Chinese laundry set up in our cabin needed after all. For our departure from Alesund we found ourselves a window seat looking right over the front of the ship. We had barely got out of port before the ship was engulfed by a thick spooky sea mist, the eerie feeling made worse by the fog horn blasting out to sea. We had decided to go to dinner a little later in the hope the crowds would have subsided but at 8pm there was a line out the door so we once again headed to the buffet. We were trying to hold out until the comedian at 11.30pm and luckily having eaten far less food today we felt a lot less sleepy after dinner. We returned to the horizons bar for a drink, had a read of the cruise news for tomorrow then headed to the comedian. I'm sure that if we were 30 years older & British the comedian would have been funnier. More than ready for bed once he had finished.
