Stupid trains!!! This morning we were heading to Amsterdam which was supposed to be a 4hr 14min journey with 2 changes at both Antwerpen & Rotterdam. We ended up taking 6 different trains & the journey took just under 7hrs. First our Antwerpen train stopped at Gent due to signal issues so we had to take the train to Brussels, then head to Antwerpen. The train to Antwerpen was ok but there was no immediate connection as someone had selfishly jumped in front of a train so we had to wait over an hour for the next train heading up to the Netherlands. We went and got a quick lunch then returned to the station only to find our train was delayed by 30mins. At this point the train got stuck behind a local train so chugged along slowly arriving into Roosendaal just over the border with the train now 1hr 15mins late only to have the engine not restart so the train was cancelled. From here we got a Dutch train to Rotterdam & changed again to get an express to Amsterdam. What a day!! Finally we arrived into Amsterdam & being very over public transport we took a taxi to the hotel where we met Ian just as we were checking in. We stopped just a block up from the hotel at a small bar which had a very good selection of beers on tap & was quite cheap. After such a long winded day the beers went down a little too easily. We moved on to another bar on the next corner, then another & finally a fourth bar where we finally decided that we really needed to eat although it was probably a bit late to soak up any drinks by now. About midnight we dragged ourselves back to the hotel.
