Kidzania is a mini real life city built for kids. They get to role play over 60 different jobs like Police, Dentist, Ambulance driver, Cadbury factory worker, F1 pit crew, Pilot, H&M Model, check out chick, chef, etc. Whatever they do they get paid for and then have to chose if they want to spend or save their money. Westfields invented it as a childcare option, allowing you to drop off the kids for hours and go do some real world shopping.
Through the doors at Westfields and the kids were off, we chased them around until we found Kidzania, there is a whole British Airways check in and customs process to got through to enter the Kidzania world. They each got 50 Kidzania dollars for their day. The idea is work and earn and see what you come away with. Gab and I went to have some breakfast and stroll the shops. I'm such fun to shop with, Gab soon asked if we could go see a movie. Mr Holmes on Gold Class was the only session we could fit in, we had the whole theatre to ourselves.
I t was pick up time, I got to go into the Kidzania city to collect the kids. I found Fid first but he was busy being instructed on how to walk the beat as a Bobby. I rounded the corner and in the Bank I caught Boo making a deposit. The Bank teller had a confused look on her face, "Are you sure you want to deposit this money?" I thought this was some sort of programming to make Boo go back out into the city to spend her money. Boo left the bank, turned right, went to the ATM and withdrew the money she had just deposited, she'd done this a dozen times, the tellers confusion made perfect sense.
Boo ran me around to all the places she had worked today: Check out chick, H&M Model, Dentist, and too many others to remember. We caught Fid out on the beat making his rounds - there had been a drumstick theft and these Bobbies were set to resolve it. So far today he'd been an ambulance driver, a mechanic, a bobby and a chef. That last one was important, he'd won a gourmet prize for making the best burger because he replicated the Ribs & Burges sauce from home. Most importantly where did the money end up? They each started with $50, they think they each earned somewhere between $130-$180 each. Fid came away with $68, Boo with $23. But she could tell me about all the things she bought for everyone and gave away to make people happy - she was my Nan to a tee.
From the Westfields mall we headed to Trafalgar Square and The Mall for a walk down to Buckingham Palace. Gab told the kids all about Princess Diana and her memorial on the island in St James' Park. We watch the Guard change through the gates at Buckingham Palace then walked up the Birdcage walk to the Abbey and Big Ben. All the building gold was gleaming in the afternoon sun. Up past the War rooms, Number 10 and Whitehall. By now everyone was shot so we headed back to Soho and China town, those Malay Straights gates at the Palace had planted a seed, the roti, satay and curry was delicious. Again it's 10:30 and we're just getting home.
