The top two things on the kids list were Hamely's and Pineapple studios, both of which are right on our doorstep. Covent Garden was first, strolling through the westend I didn't realise how many theatres are in the roads off Shaftesbury, you wouldn't need to walk more than a few minutes to visit nearly a dozen of them.
If Boo was excited to visit Pineapple Studios, the store where they get to cash in on all that expectation stood no chance - Gab & Boo debated dance tops and bottoms for just short of 9 hours while Fid and I paced up and down the street wondering how many times you can be amazed by the same design in yet another colour.
Last time we were in London Boo saw some bright Pink Patent leather Docs in Carnaby St. She's been talking about them on and off for four years, so today when we passed the Covent Garden Doc shop she started tugging on that groundwork. Again Gab & Boo debated colour Pink or Purple? No one would listen to me pushing for the Cherries. As she always does, Boo won, bright pink it was.
Covent Garden is home to the first Apple store outside of North America, they also have a play and touch display for the watch. We were all mesmerised for a few minutes until both of the kids started asking Siri questions. Their current favourite is "Siri what is 0 divided by 0" the mere mention of Cookie Monster kicks both into hysterics.
Fid found a Restaurant named after him which seemed to be the singular point to his argument for eating there, but he still won. Opting for the Ribs, little man ended up with sticky BBQ sauce all over himself. That was about the only excuse we needed to visit the 50% off Fred Perry sale. Boo threatened to spill dinner all over her dress so she could get a new one too, clever strategy but telegraphing it was poor execution.
Despite the nose to the wall incided earlier, they'd both been good enough this week that we agreed it was finally time to visit Hamely's. Along Regent St I feigned interest in every store to tease them by delaying the journey. But once that big red flag was in sight they weren't having any more of that. One step through the front door and both were mesmerised, Fid got hooked on a gliding saucer while Boo ran from Paddington to Paddington giddy with excitement. The store was absolutely heaving with excited kids and their shuffling parents.
Around into Carnaby St we had a drink at "That guy with the pen you mean" as Boo referred to the Shakespeare's Head and strolled around getting lost for a few hours more. Heading back to Piccadilly Circus, we went along Saville Row and actually found a "Kingsman" sign I wonder if that's where the movie takes it's name from?
Jamie Oliver has to the be the most prolific thing here, he's got sandwiches on the shelf in Boots, Diner, Italian, Ice cream stands, he's everywhere - we passed five of his establishments today. So that meant he won the dinner vote and so we ended our day on the rooftop of Jamie's Italian
