Brenton Kovacs's Travels
After our hiccup with India. we arrived in Dubai at 3.30am. Flight was a little bumpy, but we arrived safely. After arriving at the hotel we had a sleep before heading out.
Leaving the hotel we headed to the Old Gold Souk in Deira. Due to parking problems we struggled to get a park. From what we saw from the car, time has stood still here. Everything is as it was 200 years ago. So is was crowded, noisy, and of course smelly. Nothing like the smell of sewage first thing in the morning.
We intend to go back and walk around the area, hopefully today.
Went to Carrefour (a large supermarket) to get some supplies as our accommodation has a kitchen. Could not beleive the variety of produce and produce for sale. Could not believe the price of Australian mangoes, $10 to $12 AUD each.
Went to Wafi, a new huge shopping centre. The place was very nice, but it was like a ghost town. There was next to no one here, maybe 100 people.
Some of the roads here must have been designed by a 2 year old. It can take 15 minutes to do 2 ks.
After tea we drove to Jumeirah Beach to see the Mosque. This is the only Mosque where non Muslims are allowed to enter.
Today we are off to the Burj Kalifa, the worlds tallest tower, and the new Dubai mall
Was a little windy yesterday, but today looks a lot better. Hopefully visibility will be better than yesterday. Caught a glimpse of the sunset, but could not stop quick enough to get a photo. Our trip to the top of the Burj Kalia is at 4.30pm, so i expect a totally uninterrupted view of the sunset.
