Brenton Kovacs's Travels
It was hard saying goodbye to Anne and Robert, but i must move on. They are such such lovely people. So i head to a place called The Giants Causeway. Takes about 1.5 hours to drive there. Its not as good as i expected, but the rock formations are incredible. Now its a 1.5 hour drive heading south to Belfast. I arrive at my accommodation, which is in a Victorian Home close to the city. It rained most of the way to Belfast, but stopped when i arrived. The Victorian home is nice. Its 3 stories and i am on the top floor. I have only spoken to Richard, the host, for an hour or so and he seems nice enough. He is busy working so i leave him to it.
Spent the next few days just walking around the city. Visiting all the quarters, including the Titanic quarter. Even stood on the slipway where the Titanic was built. There is so much history in Belfast, and it certainly had a lot to see. The tour of City hall was very interesting. The big surprise was Parliament house. Its at the end of a magnificent garden with a 1k long driveway. Was also treated to the start of the parade season, where parades are held all over Belfast involving military bands. I was lucky to see a huge parade one night just around the corner from where i was staying. Spent a few hours laying on the green grass in front of City Hall basking in the glorious sunshine and using their free wifi.
Belfast is host to the Tall Ships race over the next few days, so i get to see some really old Tall ships in the Harbour.
Apparently the last few days have been the hottest in the last 19 years, yet it was only in the mid 20s. You should see the look on peoples faces when i tell them that back home we can endure 10 days in a row of over 36 degrees C.
Really enjoyed the casual pace of Belfast, its not a big city at all and has some nice views of the hills.
Today its a 2 hour drive to the airport for my flight to Glasgow. Richard suggests i drive to Newcastle, then follow the Mournes Coast road. It has some beautiful scenery, and the sun is shining. What a great day.
With the rental car returned, i clear security and make my way to the departure gate. I am lucky with my new host in Glasgow. She has offered to pick me up from the airport. Look forward to that.
