Brenton Kovacs's Travels
16th
Arrived back to Zagreb from Plitvice to be greeted by rather cold weather. Bus ride was ok. My apartment for the night is ok, but lacks wifi.
17th
A short walk to the bus station to take the bus to Trieste, Italy. This bus has wifi, so i doubt if i will get bored. The scenery is nice and green all the way across Croatia, into Slovenia and then Italy. We arrive in Trieste at 3.15pm, and its a 2k walk to where i am staying. Its a private apartment on the 3rd floor with no lift. The view from the kitchen window is nice. This place has just been fully renovated, so its nice and comfortable.

What a day. Blue sky everywhere. The day is spent wandering the streets. Visiting Largo di Citta Santos castle, and some beautiful parks. There are lots of old and historic building, with plenty of great architecture. Lots of Pedestrian malls, without the crowds. This makes the walking around very pleasant. The Italians are absolutely mad drivers and riders. Every set of stop lots is a drag strip for them. Red lights are not to be obeyed. Pedestrians are nothing but obstacles that get in their way. Had a few close calls.
The days ends with a night walk along the main streets, but with everything shutting at 8pm its time to head home for a well deserved rest.

Not so lucky with the blue sky today, its a little bit overcast. There is a tram in Trieste that is very very old. The tram is #2 , and it leaves from Piazza Oberdan to Opicina. Some of the sections are so steep it has to use a tug that pulls the tram up by a huge cable. Takes about 20 minutes to get to the top. From Opicina there is a walking path along the hillside to Prosecco. Its about 5ks with some stunning views of Tireste and the Adriatic sea. Pity about the cloudy skies.
When i arrive in Prosecco i find a supermarket where i purchase some bread and salami for lunch. Now i know there is a Bus that i can take back, but i dont know which one it is, or where or when it leaves. So just as i have finished my lunch i decide that i will walk back. Just then a bus pulls in to the stop. So i jump on board, and yes it is the right one that takes you back to Opicina. Once back in Trieste it a long walk along the waterfront. Cannot believe at just how calm the sea is.
Back to my accommodation for some refreshments and food before heading out to see the Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia. Its light up with a light show and some music. Not many people but the light show is good. All the bars have people spilling out of them. Mind you the bars are very small inside , and could only hold about 5 people, so the rest are standing and sitting outside. Its a nice atmosphere, not noisy and no loud obnoxious drunks.
Unfortunately my navigating skills are still lacking and i end up a long long way from where i wanted to be. Doesnt matter as i did get to see a lot more of Trieste than i bargained for.
Well that does it for today.

Man doing these blogs certainly eats into your time. Remembering what you did, but not being able to put it all into words. Listing the pictures and having to put some text to them or they wont be saved, thats why i dont bother with a lengthy description of the photos. I will stop whining and get on with todays events. Not much at all. Just tried to fit in like a local, most of the time it works until someone speaks to you in Italian, then they know you are a foreigner.
Spent most of the evening booking flights and accommodation in Barcelona, Lisbon, Madrid and Marrakech and Rome. Alan is joining me in Barcelona and will leave me in Rome.
Trieste is a nice place. It lacks the madness of the larger Italian cities, and has more of a relaxed, homey feel to it. The city is fairly clean and very little pollution that i could see or smell. Now its onto Spain
