Brenton Kovacs's Travels
14th
Its only a 5 minute walk to the bus station form my accommodation. The bus departs on time to Plitvice with only 8 people on board. At $13 each person i dont know how they will make any money on this 200k trip, especially when we have to pass through 2 toll booths.
Anyway the bus ride is good and i arrive at the Plitvice National Park gate 1 at 1pm. Its a short walk to my accommodation which looks like i am the only guest. I am shown to my room by the lady owner who speaks very little english.
As there is still some daylight left i walk back to the park along a path running next to the highway. The path takes you right into the park avoiding the pay booth. Its not expensive, about $20 for 2 days. So i walk out of the park to get some apple struddel, as thats all they have on offer. I think i should pay as it helps keep the park looked after, so i walk back in past the pay booth and stop, The girls who man the booth are too busy smoking and talking so i walk back in without paying.
For the next few hours i am consumed by very pretty water falls and the noise of the falls. It is a beautiful place, even if the trees have lost all there leaves. I am not alone in the park. I come across about 10 Asian people. Its getting dark so its back to the house for the night. Lucky i brought some food with me as there is nothing open for tea.

Its a great winter day. Some cloud and around 13c. I did expect to get rain, but looks like it has held off. After a very large breakfast its back to the park for the day. This time i pay the $11 entrance fee and start off at the lowest lake. It takes about 2.5 hours to walk all the way the the upper lakes where the highest lake is. 11 lakes in total. One would think after seeing 10 or 20 water falls you would have had enough. But its quite the opposite. The beauty of the park is amazing.
The water in the lakes is crystal clear and there are even fish in some of the lakes. There are small ferry boats that are not meant to be running over winter, but they are running today, so i take a short ride across one of the lakes. Today i came across 8 people, so we had the park to ourselves. I can now see why it is on the UNESCO world heritage centre. It is one amazing place.
The sun did show later in the afternoon, which made for a very pleasant finish to my walk. What a great day.
