Brenton Kovacs's Travels
Well i say goodbye to my wonderful hosts and head to the train station. The day goes as planned and i arrive into Marseille at 6pm. My host is waiting to show me the apartment.
The first day is spent close to the city as an impending storm is not for off the coast. The thunder and lightening is awesome, and then the rain buckets down. Least i managed to find shelter before the rain.
Today i visit the Calanques National park. Very beautiful with some stunning views of the coast and cliffs. Fanatic day rock climbing and pushing the boundaries of safety to the limit on some very narrow paths along the cliff face. Great adrenalin rush, but i finish the day absolutely exhausted.
My last day in Marseille is spent walking slowly around the city, as i am in some pain from yesterday's hike. Today was a glorious sunny day, and the waterfront was packed with people enjoying the sunshine. I did see quite a few beggars here, and these included little kids coming up to you with their hands out while the parents sat nearby. One kid even followed me into a bakery, where the shop owner told the kid off for hassling me and to leave the shop. To my surprise he did as he was told.
Marseille is a nice city, with the majority of people being very polite and considerate. Its not as fast paced as some of the big cities, which makes it a lot nicer to walk the streets.
Next stop is Lyon, a 4.5 hour bus ride for a huge sum of $5. Even includes wifi and on-board toilets.
