Our final time in this area produced a magnificent day that allowed for a morning beach walk (after watching the sun rise) then a very lazy morning reading in the sun before heading into the hinterland to do a couple of bush walks to rivers, falls and natural spa pools. We have become the local fishermans best customer of late and tonight after crab and prawns of the last 2 nights we had 2 large Mangrove Jacks on the camp kitchen BBQ for tea whilst chatting to fellow travellers. Its amazing that here is anyone over 65 left in Victoria. I think they are all here !!
It is interesting to view the Port Hinchinbrook development just outside town. Its a canal development with many very nice looking houses that have marvellous views. It is just as it was after the cyclone more than 2 years ago. Apparently the old owner went broke and after a long period of time under administration it has just been sold to a new owner for $20 million. The roads are full of potholes, the speed humps are broken, the street lights just have wires hanging out of them, shops and restaurants boarded up and desterted. Quite at odds with the surrounding expensive housing. I note that a lot of it appears to be for sale at quite good pricing for the area. If the new owner does the right thing and you accept that there will be a catostrophic cyclone through here every now and again it might be the time to get in !!
Off to the Atherton Tablelands for a few days tomorrow before hitting Pt Douglas
