Headed early to the Kolmården Wildlife Park so we could be there when it opened at 10am. Our first stop of the day was the safari cable car and this was a great way to see the animals. During the journey, we saw bears, lions, moose, giraffes and European Bison. Interestingly these were once extinct in the wild but were saved by zoos and wildlife parks across the globe. These have now been reintroduced back into the wild with the numbers up to a few thousand.
Some friends from Fleet had recommended this wildlife park and they had also mentioned the super-fast wooden roller coaster. They said it was fast and scary and it really was!! Megan and I were petrified and spent most of the ride with our eyes closed. Obviously, we only did the ride once!!!
Next stop was the seal show and the dolphin show. The latter was a good show but also took time to explain a couple of the 17 United Nation Global Goals for sustainable development.
· Goal 13 - take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
· Goal 14 - conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable developments
Other highlights were the tigers who really are impressive animals - they came to within 30 cms of us but luckily, we were separated by thick glass!
After watching the gibbons and apes playfully going about their business we headed for the exit as had a 4.5-hour drive to Gothenburg (Sweden's second largest city.)
