Left Rotorua for Taupo this morning, easter sunday after an action packed day! went white water rafting yesterday which was fantastic! went down a 7 metre waterfall, the highest one you can raft down in the world, and with a fern in my hat i was team mascot/warrior princess, and it stayed in! we landed miracoulously the right side up! after an exhausting morning, we rocked up to pizza hut for all you can eat pizza, pasta salad and desert! spent the afternoon exploring a big market fair, and painting plaster animals, with the guys all spending hours competeing with their monkeys! The evening involved a night in a maori village with the mitai family, We watched them paddle past on a traditional waka boat, a cultural show with dancing, where they hit themselves so hard they had handprints all over their chests and legs! we saw weapons demonstrations and then had hangi, their traditional food cooked on volcanic rocks under gruond, which was another buffet and delicious! we went on a walk to see fairy springs and some glow worms, and i was so so cold! This morning we drove to Taupo via Huka Falls, the fastest flowing foamy waterfall and lady knox geyser. In Taupo, we went shopping for some warm clothes, and then for another pizza hut buffet! all you can eat is such a good idea, and i did start getting withdrawal symptoms from pizza hut! My hostel is real luxury, and the window from my room overlooks lake taupo, and the mountains and volcano mt doom. the lake is beautiful and the size of singapore! The sunsets seem more beautiful and pink here than anywhere else, and we watched the sun setting over the lake after dinner. walked past a mcdonalds where you can eat inside a plane, the best maccie d's i have ever seen! New Zealand seems to be one big adventure, full of early mornings. have to be up at 5am tomorow, as have decided to do 'New Zealand's best short walk'- short= 8 hours if you are above average fitness! haha should be interesting! Met some really great people on the bus and saw someone i met in airlie beach today! off out for one beer as my 5am start means i need another early night!
