Hola todos! So today was my first day of class!! It was fabulous! My teacher's name is Ana Rodriguez. She is originally from Sevilla and has studied abroad in the US. She is wonderful and actually teaches law at the University! The class I am taking is called Economics of the European Union and so far it is pretty interesting. We have one book and a bunch of stuff on a disc. The entire class is pretty much broken up into two exams, one paper, and participation. My class is very small, with only 9 people including myself and it is English, but we speak some Spanish as well (because of all the conflicts I had with getting my study abroad program situtated with both Purdue and CIEE I just decided to take this course in English, but the course I will be taking in the second session will be in Spanish).
I have made a lot wonderful friends :o) The one I am closest with is Stephanie Osterberg is from Milford, PA and goes to Penn State! She is coming out in the fall for the Penn State game...yaaay! Plans are already in the making! We're going to breakfast club (which it took her a looong time to understand what it was) so if anyone wants to join please do! Her parents are coming to visit her near the end of the trip and I might do a day or two of traveling with her family instead of going to Palma! Still undecided but I'll figure it out! There are a lot of students here from Penn State, probably the majority, but everyone is very nice and I really haven't met a single person that isn't excited to be here and not having a good time! The study center is verrrrrry nice! There is a library and this cute little courtyard in the middle (pictures are coming soon I promise!) and there is wifi throughout the entire building along with a little computer lab with like 10 computers that are fairly new. And all the staff here are very nice and helpful!!
My host family is great...my only complaint - the all smoke :o( so that sucks! Because sometimes they'll have 3 going at once and that can be a little overwhelming for someone who has never been around smoke all that much. But Steph says, at least you smell like the rest of the Spaniards because they all smoke! But my place is nice and it is in a good location, pretty close to the study center, only about a 15 minute walk.
I am going out for pizza today with some friends for lunch and then going home for siesta :o) and then I think a few of us are going out on the town for shopping and tapas tonight! Hope all is well at home! Miss you & love you muuuucho!
