This morning we left Grand Junction by 7:00am. Andrew drove while Bethany slept between navigating. We arrived in Moab, Utah and were into Arches National Park by 9am. Since it was only in the 90's we went for a few hikes before the temperature went up into the 100's. We hiked around some arches known as Double Arch, the North and South Windows Arch and Turret Arch.We took plenty of pictures and Bethany experimented with the new camera (see the action shots of Andrew).
By the middle of the day we went to the Moab Brewery to stay cool and try out the microbrews.Utah's liquor laws limit the alcohol content of beer to 3.2%, but apparently there is a loophole that allows microbreweries to serve their own beer on the premises, without restrictions to the amount of alcohol.Apparently the two guys that own the brewery started it so that they could have access to some decent beer, and things just sort of took off from there?
After lunch, we checked into our cabin. The cabin had bunkbeds, a small fridge and air conditioning (which was key, given the temps above 100) for only $40 a night! We waited out the heat of the day in the cabin, and as night approached we went for a uphill hike to the famous - and frequently photographed - Delicate Arch. It was a tough hike with tons of other people, but the end result was definitely worth it.
On the way back there was an amazing sunset. Bethany experimented more with the camera to capture the sunset behind some of the park's features.
We couldn't help but notice that the group staying in the cabin next door was a number of kids and two middle-aged women. This being Utah and all, this sort of got us thinking?
