Today we drove the Going to the Sun road. We stopped and did a two hour hike that took us past waterfalls and to Avalanche Lake, which is fed by a number of glacier-produced waterfalls. Today, like yesterday, it was a little hazy as temperatures were headed to near-record highs for Glacier, in the mid-nineties or higher. We expected those temps in Moab, but not in Glacier. We left the mountains after a week in the Wind River Range near Pinedale, Wyoming. Our backpacking trip was great, but we were definitely ready to be finished (and shower!) when it was over. We spent five nights in the woods, and did a boulder climb on the second-to-last day, and got an awesome view of the Cirque of the Towers at the top of the climb. The drive to Glacier took almost the entire day today. We stopped in Missoula, Montana to check out the town and get some lunch, then began our off-Interstate portion of the drive. We had incredible huckleberry milkshakes a bit north of Missoula. Much of the drive continued through Indian Reservations, and much of the drive contained nothingness -- just large ranches and an occasional small town.
