Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
The weather warning was just that, there was no real damage except a few plastic bags blowing around. The sort of thing that the UK gets in a flap about. But we got ready when we woke up, after a cosy night in the car and set off for the highly recommended Mall nearby, Opry Mills. It was the in the same location as The Grand Old Opry, where you can find see anyone who is someone in the music world, usually the country music world though. It's been there for years, Elvis played there back in his day. But we got there and had a look round the shops, got a Cinnabon for breakfast, which I'm pretty sure is my new favourite thing. Not long before we went into a huge camping store that sold machetes and guns, even throwing knives, and I was tempted, purely for recreational purposes. However I doubt customs would allow it. Afterwards, Marie got collared by an Arabian man who wanted to sell her some straighteners, including a lengthy demonstration. But we politely declined. Then we set off for the cinema at the other side of the mall to watch the new Fast and Furious film, looking in various outlet stores like Nike and Disney, all with cheaper prices. I could've easily spent a lot of money. A highlight on the way to the cinema was us finally getting our hands on the shorts Marie had searched 3 states worth of Forever 21 stores for. The ones I told her to buy in Minneapolis. But never mind, they were the last pair and that's what mattered . . . so I'm told anyway. The film was great, it's the eighth and yes they are dragging it out, but we both really enjoyed it. We were the only ones in there, and Marie had popcorn, salted though, awful. After the cinema, we checked out the last few shops and went to an aquarium for dinner. Literally, the restaurant was in an aquarium, so it's like you eat underwater, it was great. The food was really good, had my first vegetables of the trip and so did Marie. I had fried chicken, and she had grilled chicken, and we both cleared our plates with ease. Tonight we planned on going down the street to music valley to enjoy a bit of the Nashville nightlife. So we went to the Nashville Palace for a night of whiskey and country music, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, Marie got a little tipsy too, and the atmosphere was awesome. A few beers, a few whiskies and a few tequilas, a really good evening by my standards. We were there until midnight and our taxi didn't turn up, so we walked the 2 miles home. So it was off back to camp and back to bed, we had set the tent up tonight so we had a bit more room. Plus, there was no threat of a tornado tonight.
