Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
We were heading down to Lynchburg today to the Jack Daniels Distillery, I was very excited. We set off relatively early, I was sad to be leaving the hot tub, but we had to go, there was nothing for it. Just before we got on the road properly, we went to the Willie Nelson General Store and the Dukes of Hazzard Cooters Museum that were both on music valley. I've never seen so much Dukes of Hazzard merchandise. Anyway, after Marie spent 45 minutes looking at postcards, we set off. Lynchburg was 78 miles south, and that was nothing to be able to do some whiskey tasting and find out a little bit about the process done to make it. Once we arrived, after filling up at a petrol station that doubled as a kebab shop, we got there. You park across the road from the distillery and you catch a shuttle there. We were going to be doing the Angel's Share tour, which allows you to taste the finest whiskies that JD has to offer. We went to the spring where they draw water out of the ground, we saw where they burn maple wood for charcoal and we also saw the fermenters and the barrelhouse. The barrels are made especially for JD and the process of recycling is really ethical. Giving waste to other companies and farmers. The JD distillery is the only one, all Jack Daniels comes from this one, and that means at any one time, they can have nearly $10m worth of whiskey on site. That's a lot of whiskey y'all!! As our tour guide said. She was really enthusiastic and that made the tour even better. Finally, we got to the tasting, a selection of 5 whiskies including the JD Sinatra at $150 a bottle and the JD Gold, only available in Tennessee and and Asia. Why Asia, I'm not sure. We also sampled their single barrel whiskey which literally comes straight out of the barrel for every bottle, meaning no 2 barrels taste the same. We also found out that Gentleman Jack, sits for 3/4 years in the barrel before being bottled, that's vintage. After the tasting, the best bit, we had a chance to go to the whiskey shop and buy some. So after that and the official JD store down the road, we spent far too much. We headed over to the camp we were staying in via Sonic for dinner and got to sleep.
