Today was the day, the end of Route 66 and the end of a 2400+ mile journey. It was sad, but our journey wasn't over yet. We got up and showered, all before checking out this free breakfast, and after the Monte Carlo, I can hands down say that this was the best breakfast we had. Fresh croissants, pastries, cereal and proper tea, proper English tea!! Needless to say, we sat there for a while. I had toast, yoghurt, cereal, a croissant and pastries. Everything apart from fruit, which was fine by me. There was also a really nice pomegranate green tea for her ladyship. After we had eaten most of the breakfast bar we set off for Santa Monica pier, where the end post for Route 66 was. We travelled there on the old historic road and saw one of the first McDonald's from before the franchising, we also went through some really nice housing estates, but they would be bearing in mind we went right past Beverly Hills. It took a while because all the roads on the way were busy and had traffic lights, but we got through eventually and managed to find somewhere to park. There was no stops on the way really, we went though little towns but they were all part of the sprawling city of LA. Once we had parked we walked over the road to the beach, and the pier. I imagined LA to be beautiful sun and people roller skating everywhere, but it was cloudy and the pier looked like the one in Great Yarmouth. I was slightly disappointed, I mean I don't know if it was the smog that affects the west coast or what, but it turned from clear blue sky to overcast in a matter of miles. As we walked towards the pier, we watched a street show and one of the guys was British and looked like ASAP Rocky, he did a massively flip over 4 people, it was entertaining to be fair. We walked over to the pier and saw the sign, "the end of the Route". It was sad yet a real achievement. A lot of people were taking photos by the sign like they'd done it, but we actually had, we'd driven the lot. Which gave a sense of entitlement over a picture with the sign for some strange reason. After that we walked to the end of the pier to the end of the Route shop. Marie bought her traditional 27 postcards and then we left. As we were walking back, we saw a Route 66 shack and stopped to look at some of the wares. Then the gentleman asked us if we knew much about the Route, and we told him we had finished it today. To which he shook our hands and came out to have a good chin wag over some of the sights, I felt like I was now part of a special club or something. He handed us a certificate, which we had to pay for, and took a photo of us, plus we got to sign the finishing book too. After he had given us some advice on the local area, we set off again. We were now going for a little walk down the third street promenade, where there were lots of shops and performing street artists, some even attracted very suspect dancing. The type that looks only possible under the influence of class A drugs. As we crossed one of the roads someone stood on Marie's toe hard and made it bleed and she was a little upset bless her. So we went into Forever 21 and bought he a new top to cheer her up. After that, we left to head back to camp and stopped at Walmart on the way back for a salad for dinner, McDonald's at lunchtime meant that we should probably cut back at dinner. Tomorrow we would be heading into Hollywood.
