Today was the day, we were doing the thing that was top of my list when we came here. Universal studios. We rose early this morning, and I mean 6 o clock early. Early for being on holiday shall we say. The plan was to be up and showered and on the road by 7, that ended up being 7:30 by the time Marie had trouble waking up. Not the day to peeve me off, it was my day and I was as excited as a kid at Christmas. I was going to make the most of my day, and I wanted the whole day. We were allowed to take breakfast on the go by the nice lady at the KOA so we filled the car with croissants and muffins and took a hot drink for the road. We hit the morning congestion, which was upsetting to say the least, and after waiting in that eating yoghurt and croissants with marmalade Marie was preparing for me, we made it. Just as the doors opened. We had to pay for parking, which I must say I found disgusting considering it was $100+ per ticket. But I suppose they were in the business to make money, I'd do the same. Anyway, we got straight in and the big rides weren't open yet in the lower part of the park, so we headed there first. We queued until they opened the gates. Then we rushed down to the Mummy ride first, it was in complete darkness and I was not prepared for the rush at the start. It scared the crap out of me, and my picture after the ride showed that. We went round again, because it was empty and then went for one of the other bigger more popular rides to save queuing. It was the Transformers 4D ride next, where the experience makes you feel like you're right in the action and it was brilliant. After that we went in the Jurassic Park log flume and the familiar music coming as you go through the gates was a highlight for me to be honest. We didn't get that wet though. Then we headed back to meet Optimus Prime who made fun of the size of my t shirt. We also met a velociraptor, who was slightly bigger than the usual ones. Then we made our way back to the Springfield area, which was fairly new, went on the Krustyland ride and then got a lard lad donut. Which was as big as Marie's head, literally. We watched Shrek 4D and also the live animal show featuring all the animals that perform stunts in the films. Then we got ourselves a flaming moe, which was Fanta basically but they serve it frozen so icey steam comes off it. We enjoyed that and then went to the place I was most excited for, the walking dead walk through ride. I was actually pretty anxious but after shortly queuing in the hospital from the first series, you get thrown into the experience. Gladly someone was in front of us, but each room had more live zombies in and we went through various scenes from the show. It was really good, one of the zombies went for marie and she got scared out of her skin. It was very funny to watch. But the experience itself was really fun. After that we went to watch the 4 o clock Waterworld show, which was amazing. There was fireworks, explosions and even a plane crash, all in front of us. The stunt actors were all sharp at what they did as a profession, it must've been a great job. After that, we went to the studio tour, the classic part of universal studios that has been running for years, we boarded our tram, after our longest wait of the day, which was about an hour. It was partly narrated by Jimmy Kimmel, and the tour was great, with a few 4D experiences on it too, King Kong and also the Fast and Furious crew made an appearance. We also saw Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives, a show familiar to both Marie and more importantly me. By now we had used most of our day up, the tour itself took around an hour. That meant we had time for one last ride, and we chose the Harry Potter ride in the castle. The 4D experience was so good, there was the whomping willow, dementora and also a dragon. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. After that, we had a little look through Hogsmeade and bought a butterbeer before going shopping for some gifts. After we left the park, all the shops and restaurants we walked through at the start were lit up and it was great. We went into Hot Topic and I managed to secure an exclusive Lord of the Rings Pop vinyl figure. Then we set off for Ventura Boulevard, where we going to Stout for dinner, a restaurant which used to be a famous gym that Arnold Schwarzenegger once trained at. The former owner Vince Gironde, was who Marie's brother Vince is named after. We both had a burger and went back to camp, I literally went straight to sleep. It was a long busy day. But one of the best days of my life.
