Today was one of the best days we've had in New Zealand and one of the ones to remember of the whole trip. We started the day with a lush riverside sunrise and a drive into Wellington and up to Mt Victoria. From here we walked up to the view point where you get a 360 view of Wellington city, the harbour and surroundings! Just down the road we pulled over and had a little walk through the woods and up onto a path way rightly named hobbits hideaway - this was our first Lord of the Rings film site and was my favourite from the day - you get to walk along a pathway from the film and being star struck aside it was a beautiful path way. Back to the car and a drive into the city centre where we jumped out and jumped onto the welling cable car upto the botanical gardens - this was pretty cool as is a amazing way to get the the gardens and once your at the top the views are amazing. We walked around the gardens very civilised, then we found the play park, signed for 14 year olds and under and completely ignored as they had a zip line! A good 20 minutes spent and some good childhood fun and we continued our walk around the gardens. This was really good and felt like you were miles away from a city! A quick look around the cable car museum and then we got the cable car back down, grabbed a pie and headed further south of the city to cape ..? Em-route to the campsite we stopped at a few of the Lord of the Rings film sites - this included Dry Creek Quarry where they filmed scenes for Helms Deep, Harcourt Park where they filmed scenes
from Isangard, the Hutt River were a few river scenes were filmed and finally Rivendell which is the only site with information boards about the filming. These were all pretty cool places to visit and with a bit of imagination you can see how they were filmed! Following this was a Chinese takeaway and a long drive to Ngawi where we camped up for the night! Good day an lots done - love it!
