Today we arrived at the pier to catch the boat to don det - the bus journey was a mixture of a laos disco and musical chairs as we all fought to get comfy enough to sleep. Luckily we arrived 4 hours early! So at 5:30 we departed the bus and made our way to find a boat. Once on we wizzed across the Mekong river watching the sun rise over the 4000 islands! The next part of our journey was interesting - we grabbed some breakfast and went looking for a place to stay. We had already decided to stay on the sunset side of the island and wanted to be away from the main centre, after walking the entire sunset side and back up through the middle of the island (we now had been walking for an hour and covered about 4 miles with our bags!) we settled for the first place, which was situated on the sun rise side! We dumped our bags, had a chill in the hammocks and then rented bikes and had a ride around the island and went to find 'the last resort' where there are 4 teepees which you stay in and wanted to see if they had any rooms for tomorrow night (sadly they didn't). Whilst there we grabbed a cider and had a chill in there nice garden. We also sorted a few other bits out - One of these was our kayaking trip tomorrow which will take us to two waterfalls (one being the largest in south east Asia), to see the Irrawaddy dolphins and generally paddle around some more of the islands. The other was booking a room which we found just up the road from the teepees! All booked we grabbed some dinner and headed back to our rooms, cycling in the dark which was historical! Once back we played a few games of euchre and had a few beers! Good first day on Don Det!
