Retired & Traveling
We woke up to 50's and overcast skies today, which felt great after a few days of upper 70's. I know y'all back in Houston think, "waa waa", but crammed on a bus and walking everywhere makes one toasty. :)) We hit the Capo Market early (Sicilian early, which was 9:00) and ran into our tour guide from the food tour! He spotted us first, very friendly guy. We managed to buy a bunch of fruit & veggies, bread and olives...not many speak English but pointing works like a charm, as well as holding up fingers. :)) Later in the day, a Cannoli was calling so loudly, we just couldn't ignore it and meandered to the place that makes them FRESH. OMG, the filling is so cold and thick and creamy, and the outer layer is all crunchy and coated with powdered sugar with cinnamon...good thing we are leaving tomorrow!! We walked down to the cathedral and then just beyond is an old gateway to the city. It was built in the 1500's. My mind has a hard time wrapping around how many years ago that was and how different the surroundings would have been. Back home to pack and now we are off to Madrid first thing in the morning!
