Retired & Traveling
We met our tour guide right outside the ship by our bus on ANOTHER gorgeous day! We have been so blessed with this amazing weather. Her name was Giordana, which is Italian for Jordan. She had an accent, but was pretty easy to understand and was our favorite guide of all. It was about a 30 minute drive to the city center of Pisa. Our bus dropped us off outside the walls of the city, and we had about a 15 minute walk to get to the sights. We passed through an old gate that was originally built in the 11th century! The first building we saw was a place dedicated to baptism, then a church and finally, the bell tower, aka the leaning tower. It's amazing to see how far it leans!! Our guide was quite funny with her explanations of how the tower came to lean and what they finally did to keep it from toppling down. We were led down some narrow streets to a main square and shown the different styles of architecture that were popular during those times. Then we walked back to the main area and were given free time for photos, and shopping. I didn't know this, but apparently the author of the story Pinocchio, was from the Pisa area, so a LOT of the souvenirs featured him in puppet form and in all kinds of products. Pam bought a few things for her grandkids, but I could only get a magnet since I'm already on the edge for weight in my suitcases. :( We got back to our ship around 1:00 and were hungry, but a trip to the buffet fixed that. Needed some fuel for packing--ugh, can't believe it's already been a week! After packing, Rich weighed our luggage and we are right in the edge of being over the limit. Let's hope that we get some leeway with the airline's scales! We met up for our last dinner with our waiters--they have been so nice and we got a photo with them. I didn't think I would like them when we first met them, but Luis and Manuel were great guys. The show was a singer, I wasn't too impressed, but the second act was the magician we saw the other night, and he was just as amazing as he had been the other night. It's been a wonderful time on the Majestic Princess!
