Retired & Traveling
I know I sound like a broken record, but this weather just couldn't be better! I thought Palermo might be more humid, but not so far. And with sunny skies and a high of 65, it's been a delight! I woke up with a really bad eye infection, so I'm back on antibiotics, hoping it clears up enough for me to take our tour to the Corleone museum tomorrow. I mostly did laundry and rested today. The European washing machines make me long for home...you put 2 pairs of blue jeans and a couple more items, and it's full--and takes almost two hours to wash!!! I played around with it and finally figured out a cycle that only takes 40 minutes. With the amount of laundry we had amassed in two weeks, it was a project! Then of course there is the hanging it out to dry--got it all hung ok, but dropped one of Rich's dress shirts and had to fly downstairs to get it before a car ran it over and ruined it! Made it but just barely. Oh the joys of living like a European. LOL We ventured out to a piazza I wanted to go back to and they were open. I had spaghetti and a salad--the salad wasn't at all what I thought I was ordering, it came with sliced tomatoes, anchovies, black olives and onions. No lettuce. Hmmm, next time, I'm taking a photo of the menu and doing a translation. :) We went to the top of a shopping store and had a nice view of the city. Since it's a holiday, a lot of the streets & shops were closed and there was a marathon going on. Strangest race I've ever seen--people were running looking at a map, some were going past us, others coming at us, couldn't figure it out! We found a place to buy some instant coffee for me, but no powdered creamer. We need to find a big grocery store for that I guess. I've got two days worth left, so it's gonna be a priority soon. :)
