Belle Mead is another plantation in Nashville and was in its prime at the same time as the Hermitage. No cotton at this plantation; they bred and raced horses. We wanted to see a plantation up close, and there are at least two here that are open to the public. We went to the Hermitage today, which was the home of President Andrew Jackson. It is a beautiful area, with a large mansion and many other buildings on the property. Their principal income came from cotton.
