Travelling south on the Sunshine Coast Ale Trail to the Skookumchuck Narrows.
Garden Bay, British Columbia
Another beautiful morning and time for an early paddle before breakfast and checkout. Then we drove south on the Sunshine Coast ale trail to sample some craft beers at the Townsite Brewery in Powell River.
After the ferry from Saltery bay back to Earls Cove we turned north towards Egmont to hike to Skookumchuck Narrows at the entrance to Sechelt Inlet to see the Sechelt Rapids. This is a fabulous hike through ancient mossy forest to see the point at which the inlet narrows so that at maximum tidal flow there is a turbulent tidal flow and very often a standing wave.
Our visit was somewhat shortened by my recollection, at 4.30, that we needed to check into our next hotel before 5pm, necessitating a long run back along the trail in search of phone reception to explain our late arrival.
We finally achieved this at the lovely, friendly and beautifully positioned Backeddy bar and restaurant where we stayed for beers and dinner before driving on to arrive at Garden Bay in the dark and wet....
