A long day's driving today as we set off for Chilliwack, heading south in Highway 1, the Transcanadian highway.
Not much to say except that the sun shine, the mountain scenery was spectacular and we stopped for a break on the way and saw an amazing little bird called a Water Ousel or American Dipper. It behaves much like an ordinary dipper scurrying around the pebbles in the riverbank, but this one actually dives in and swims underwater to catch fish. A very intriguing and beautiful thing to watch in a sunny riverbank in the Kootenays!
We arrived in Chilliwack to hit the supermarket and liquor store for hostess gifts and the timber merchant just before closing to purchase hardboard and 2x2 lengths for this evening's DIY project. Then onward to See Chris's friends Rebecca and Hamish. We find Rebecca just about to head out on a walk with Spruce, the Newfoundland Ducktoller. Surely the perfect little puppy? Red fluffy fur, four white paws, white tail tip, pale green eyes and a lively playful nature. We walked along the edge of the stream looking up at the mountains and can understand why she and Hamish, with their love of mount rain biking, have left Bonnie Scotland to settle here.
Back at home, B and C took advantage of Hamish's workshop whilst I took advantage of their washing machine and tumble drier! We meet for a fine supper of chilli with avocado salad and talk endlessly!!
Finally force ourselves off to bed as we all have an early start tomorrow.
