Returning to Nanaimo, Horseshoe Bay, Cypress falls and dinner at The McKenzie Room.
Kitsilano, British Columbia
Our last morning afloat. Banana pancakes and maple syrup for breakfast before we haul up the anchor and sail back to Nanaimo Harbour.
Once re-fuelled, Ian deftly sails Stargazer back to her berth and we disembark.
Over the past week we have cobered 162 nautical miles and sailed all the way down through the Gulf Islands to the Canada / USA border and back again. It has been great.
We board the ferry back to Horseshoe Bay, sitting in the front row of the lounge seats watching the wind and rain outside and remembering all the things that we have done over the past week.
At Horseshoe Bay, Chris sets off to pick up Millie from her secret parking spot and meets us a short time later in The Lookout, where we have been studying the nautical chart they have displayed there, interestedto see how our travelling route looks on a larger chart / map.
Its raining steadilywithout sign of a let upso our plans for the afternoon are slightly limited. We had planned a Millie tour and a hike but really our best option is a local waterfall walk in a forest. Chris finds the ideal spot at Cypress Falls Park and we don full waterproof gear and set off. We get absolutely soaked but the falls are spectacular and the typical ancient west coast forest is lovely - huge tall trees, covered in moss and lichen creating an eerie green timeless atmosphere. We follow the river to the top waterfall and then return back to the van, which immediately steams up with all the hot wet clothing.
Back in Vancouver, we stop off at the Acteryx factory outlet store before returning to Greer Avenue for hot showers, unpacking, laundry and re-packing.
Early evening we set off for dinner, at The MacKenzie Room preceded a visit to 33 acres Craft Brewery where we sampled a flight of there popular ales and another of their experimental ales.
At The MacKenzie Room we went for the 'I Want it All' menu again and spent a happy reminiscing about our holiday and planning the future over a vast selsction of incredible foods including the famous sea urchin pate with squid ink brioche!
Its a great last night out together before we head back to Greer Avenue for some sleep.
