We enjoyed a relaxing day in Wentworth today, starting with a late brekky by the river and just chilling out watching the bird life on the river in front of us.
Cadbury went for a swim, trying to catch bits of bread we had thrown to the ducks, pelicans and swans, but he got stuck in deep muddy water and Gadi had to help him out. He looked so funny paddling and trying to get out.
In the afternoon we went for a short drive to have a look at the Murray Darling river junction. We were there a couple of years ago and still find it a lovely park for relaxing and seeing where the Darling River actually meets and joins the mighty Murray. The park also has a climbing tower and an indigenous scar tree (aboriginals used hand made axes to slice a whole piece of the trunk off the tree to use for a canoe, leaving the tree intact and living).
We then went to see Lock 10, one of 13 locks along the Murray that are used to control the water level and flow as well as for navigational purposes. You can see the difference in water level on each side of the lock.
Next we went to see the free camping area along the river, which was surprisingly quiet and also explored the nearby lagoon, which looked like a swamp and had a couple of very untidy almost neglected-looking farm properties along it.
We came back to our campsite and enjoyed sitting outside in the late afternoon sun with ice cream, a glass of Shiraz and some cheese and crackers. Oh, this is the life!
We sat outside until it got quite dark, watching the pelicans flock in front of us, diving in unison for fish. Cooked dinner inside and chilled out in our little home on wheels.
Good night xx
