Today we got up early as we took the ferry across the English Channel to Dunkirk in France. The weather was very overcast but the channel was calm so the trip was very smooth. We were at the ferry terminal at 8.45am and the weather looked pretty bleak. The trip took about 2hrs. We had breakfast on-board and enjoyed the view outside on the back deck. The weather was clearing as we approached France. We also had to move the clock forward 1 hour. The forecast for South England is rain for the next two weeks. Good we have gone abroad. We left Dunkirk and made the journey to Balgoij in The Netherlands. We used he motorways and frequently were in traffic jams. The worst two places were Antwerp in Belgium and 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. We did four countries in seven hours. Two of which was on a ferry. Everything is so close to each other. The countryside was mainly farming or industrial. The motorways don't go through any towns and if it was a major city there was a ring road to avoid it. Much more organised than Australia. The Moasland Campsite is situated in Balgoij next to the Maas River. It is like you are on a farm with park facilities. There is a small farm attached to it for children to see the animals. Although we can't see the river because of the dike you can watch people cycling on top of the dike. It doesn't get dark till 10.30 so people are still out and about. Trevor and Paul went up and had a look this evening. I will go up in the morning. It has been a long time since I have spoken Dutch but today I had to learn again as the proprietor of the campsite has limited English and everything is written in Dutch. I have no problem understanding it but I really have to think to speak it. They speak back to front. It reminds me so much of growing up at home as my parents always spoke Dutch instead of English.
