OVERVIEW
I'm writing this about 4 months after the fact. I've forgotten names of some places and restaurants, hence the reason I'm starting a travel blog! I'll be tracking that stuff down and updating this. In the mean time, some things to know about Dallas.
The JFK assassination was a conspiracy! Don't believe everything you hear in the media. Its hard to believe the government was so corrupt, even back in the 1960's. For some reason I was under the impression that things were better then. People were better? Its not true. This is just the age of information! We just know more now than they did back then.
JFK MUSEUM www.jfk.org
So sad to lose a President to an assassination. It was before my time (by just shy of 20 years!), but being there is like stepping into a time portal and reliving an experience. There was a huge amount of media coverage, so there were plenty of photographs portraying the event frame-by-frame.
Outside of the JFK museum, "X" marks the spot where the former President was shot. I won't go into a lot of detail, but somewhere out there is another shooter. He got away scott-free, or perhaps someone decided to knock him off to in efforts to eliminate a paper trail.
There's no photography in the museum, but the pictures although not graphic are tough to forget. You can't visit Dallas without visiting the JFK museum.
DOWNTOWN DALLAS www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/daldt-dallas-marriott-city-center
We stayed at the Marriott in City Center.. downtown Dallas. Nice place! Its attached to a plaza with an ice skating rink. Downfall? They were under construction. SO ANNOYING! Also, no movie theaters in town! Only the 2nd city I've been to like this.
BEST BARBEQUE IN DALLAS www.sonnybryans.com
I don't even like meat that much. This place was SO GOOD. One "portion" could feed a small army. These TX guys seem to eat a lot... its true what they say, everything is bigger in Texas! The food portions are bigger. The zoo is bigger! The hotel is big... I don't think its just a joke!
DALLAS ZOO & AQUARIUM www.dallaszoo.com
I got to feed a giraff lettuce!! It was hot. I think the sun is bigger in Dallas too...
DALLAS STARS VS. PHILLY FLYERS stars.nhl.com
Did anyone think for a second that the Stars could beat us? Those of you dedicated Flyers fans watching the game on TV saw us sitting behind the net! We got your phone calls! Greg's bright orange flyers jersey stuck out like a soar thumb!
FINAL REVIEW
Dallas is highly OK. I'm bias to the NE I guess. No place like home? Its flat, its hot, and there's a lot of people with hats (I know, I sort of blended in!). There's not enough seafood, and there's too much pork and beef. I think they kill stuff behind the restaurants and cook it for you there. If you like hot weather, big everything, flat land, eating beef and pork, then Dallas is for you.
