We woke up to find our luck with the weather had dramatically changed with sun shining outside. It is an excellent timing for our visit to Great Barrier Reef on Green Island. We went to the pier to join other tourists waiting for the ferry to take us to Green Island.
Unusually, the only way to access the island is by a commercial run tour operator's ferries rather than a public ferry. Luckily as a part of the package we were given snorkels, goggles and flippers. The crew were excellent and we made friend with one of them who helped to demonstrate how to use the gear and gave us tips on the best spots to snorkel. We arrived and the island was very secluded, there were a hotel on the middle of it and the beaches climbed all way around on outskirts of the island.
I admit there were many people scattered on the beach but luckily the beach stretched for miles and miles around the island so it wasn't too crowded so we went walking all around the island and after 5 minutes, we were alone and I felt like a younger and handsome version of Tom Hanks in Castaway but I didn't find any ball to made friends with!
The route we took vary from the sharp rocks which we wobbled over rather precariously to the golden sands that we kept sinking in so you can see it took a lot of effort to complete our mini trek. We passed a secluded helicopter which is used for commercial tours over the island before eventually arriving back at the start of our route.
I sustained a cut to my foot on the enroute so I went to wash off in the sea with trepidation because I once read a fact that a shark can smell a drop of blood in nine Olympic sized swimming pools. Luckily, I didn't become Jaws' dinner and we all got our snorkelling gears on and went snorkelling.
Charlene had a deep cut to her thigh because of the optical reflection effect in the water which mean everything look so far yet in the reality it is actually much closer so Charlene scraped her thigh swimming over a rock. Dominic struggled with his snorkel gear so it leaves just me, Ashley and Sara to swim on and we saw many colourful fishes and plants yet it is also scary to venture into a world so alien to our world and I don't know which plants were poisonous and which fishes were dangerous so I was rather paranoid.
At one stage, I found myself isolated in an array of plants so I had to carefully swim my way out in a narrow route but as time went on, I become more aware and confident. We returned to the beach and persuaded Charlene and Dominic to have another go and eventually Charlene ignored her cut (It were cleaned and patched up when we were snorkelling) and Dominic realised his snorkel were set at the wrong angle so he kept on swallowing water and becoming more saltier than Salt and Vinergar flavoured crisps so the fault were fixed and we carried on.
I saw a starfish and a stingray but Dominic saw a turtle which were rare and we also took photos with our newly purchased underwater camera. I wished I could stay there forever but it eventually got too cold and we had to go back to the ferry so we reluctantly wandered out and let the sun dry us off. We also had a chat with a deckhand who gave us tips in the morning.
We then purchased the meats for a barbecue which we had in the Lagoon. There were many free barbecue spots so we took advantage of it and had excellent barbecue cooked by Ashley. It were very relaxing end to a wonderful day with no sunburn for a change!

Well done for being so self effacing about being a wimp! Love and miss you (it seems worse when you are away but still glad you are having a good time) Dad.
